Women's Health Q & A

What is women’s health?

Women’s health at Apollo Medical includes evaluation, screening, diagnosis, and treatment of health issues specific to women, such as:

  • Hormone imbalance
  • Breast and cervical cancers
  • Menopause symptoms
  • Osteoporosis
  • Infertility
  • Gynecological problems
  • Abnormal periods
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Heart disease

The Apollo Medical team offers annual well-woman exams, routine physicals, and follow-up appointments if you experience unusual gynecological or other symptoms.

What happens during women’s wellness exams?

During a women’s health exam at Apollo Medical, your provider checks your pulse, weight, blood pressure, and other vital signs. They review your medical history and ask questions about past diagnoses, surgeries, medications, and symptoms you may have.

Your women’s health specialist completes a comprehensive physical exam. They evaluate your throat, eyes, ears, nose, breathing, abdomen, reflexes, and heart rate. Your primary care doctor completes a breast and pelvic exam, including a Pap test to biopsy cervical cells and screens them for cervical cancer. They offer health education and answer questions you may have.

In some cases your Apollo Medical specialist might recommend diagnostic screening tests, such as urine tests, blood tests, bone scans, ultrasound, or other imaging procedures, to diagnose a women’s health condition and determine which treatment is best.

Which women’s health treatments are available?

Based on the results of your physical exam, diagnostic tests, risk factors, lifestyle, and preferences, your Apollo Medical provider might recommend one of the following treatments:

  • Diet, exercise, and other lifestyle changes
  • Further diagnostic testing
  • Medications
  • Dietary supplements
  • Medical weight loss
  • Birth control
  • Hormone replacement therapy
  • Fertility treatment
  • Immunizations
  • Minor surgical procedures

Your doctor gives you a voice in your care, working with you to develop a treatment plan you’re comfortable with.

If you have a complex women’s health problem requiring care from a specialist, or you become pregnant, Apollo Medical physicians refer out to OB/GYN specialists near you. They follow up with your care and work closely with specialists to optimize your health and quality of life.
