What happens during primary care appointments?

During primary care appointments at Apollo Medical, your provider weighs you and checks your blood pressure and other vital signs. They review your medical history, including past diagnoses, medications, family history of disease, and symptoms.

Your primary care doctor completes a physical examination to evaluate your eyes, nose, hearing and vision, throat, abdomen, limbs, reflexes, breathing, and heartbeat. During women’s wellness exams they offer pelvic exams and Pap tests to detect early signs of cervical cancer. In men, your provider offers prostate screening.

If you’re at risk of or experience symptoms of a disease or illness, your provider might recommend you undergo diagnostic screening to detect high cholesterol, high blood sugar, and other chronic disease risk factors. They may suggest a blood test, urine test, electrocardiogram (EKG), allergy and asthma tests, a throat or nasal swab, X-rays, or other imaging procedures.

Which treatments are available?

  • Medications or injections
  • Breathing treatments
  • Tissue biopsies
  • Intravenous (IV) therapy
  • Palliative care
